How It Works: Submitting Your 3D Printing Requests is a Breeze!

ImagineIF Libraries is making 3D printing accessible to everyone by providing and easy-to-use online submission process. Fill out our online form with your basic details, provide a link to a Creative Commons-licensed 3D file from websites like Thingiverse or Printables, agree to our program’s terms and conditions, and hit submit! Our user-friendly interface ensures a smooth and exciting experience, making the wonders of 3D printing accessible to all.

Once your 3D prints are ready, swing by any ImagineIF location to pick them up! To enhance the program’s success, we kindly ask you to complete a brief survey upon pick-up. Your feedback is invaluable, helping us shape the future of our 3D printing services and ensuring an even more exciting experience for you and your fellow community members.

3D Printing Pilot Program Q & A

  • Q: What is the Free Public 3D Printing Pilot Program?
    A: The program is an initiative by ImagineIF Libraries to provide free access to 3D printing services for personal and educational purposes.
  • Q: When does the program end?
    A: The program will conclude in May 2024 or upon using $500.00 of filament, whichever comes first.
  • Q: How can I participate?
    A: To participate, fill out the online request form available on the ImagineIF Libraries website.
  • Q: What information is required in the online request form?
    A: You’ll need to provide your first name, last name, library card number, email address, phone number, select your preferred pickup location, and provide us with the link to your 3D Printable design.
  • Q: Can I submit a file from Google Drive or Dropbox?
    A: No, currently, we cannot accept files from file-sharing sites due to security restrictions and the program’s defined scope. If you have designed your own file, we kindly ask you to upload it to a website under a Creative Commons license.
  • Q: Can I print my own design?
    A: If you have created your own file, you will need to upload it to a website under a Creative Commons license.
  • Q: How many prints can I request during the pilot period?
    A: Each patron can request up to 3 prints.
  • Q: Are there restrictions on the files accepted?
    A: Yes, only 3D files with Creative Commons licenses that are hosted publicly will be accepted. Files containing weapons, projectiles, or NSFW content will not be accepted.
  • Q: What is the purpose of the program guidelines?
    A: The guidelines ensure that 3D printing is used for non-commercial and educational purposes while maintaining a friendly and supportive environment.
  • Q: How will the prints be delivered?
    A: Prints will be delivered with supports still intact, providing a glimpse into the printing process. You can choose the library location to pick up your 3D print.

    A: PLA filament will be used for all prints

    A: ImagineIF Libraries have two Dremel 3D40 Series 3D Printers.

    A: No, staff will alter the size so that it will fit on the print bed and/or be completed in one continuous run.

    A: Design alterations after submission are not allowed.
